DERI

"Podcasting: What's New?" talk by Conn Ó Muíneacháin at DERI today

Conn gave a great talk and question / answer session at DERI, NUI Galway this morning about podcasting and his experiences producing both "An tImeall" and "An Líonra Sóisialta".

My Digital Media students recorded a video of his talk - due to some upcoming exams, it will probably be about two weeks before they can edit / upload a video podcast of the event. Conn also captured an audio recording of the talk, so maybe there can be an upload race :)

After the WebCamp workshop on social networks

A great day by my account at least (and by some others that I overheard!) was had at the WebCamp workshop on social networks held at DERI, NUI Galway yesterday.

Considering the short notice of just nine days, there was an impressive turnout of between 50 and 60 people, and as well as six talks in the morning we had some interesting "birds of a feather" discussion sessions in the afternoon.

Speaker on advertising on social network sites added to WebCamp programme

I'm very happy to announce that we will have an additional speaker at tomorrow's social networks event - Mark Tarbatt from Generator - he is MD of this leading Irish online advertising company and has directed some big campaigns on Bebo, Ireland's most popular SNS.

DM110 - Week 9 - Content Syndication

Today's talk was about RSS, uses for feeds and a bit about mashing with Yahoo! Pipes.

DM110 - Week 8 - Content Sharing

Last week's lecture on content sharing, presented this week. Talking about sharing maps, photos, bookmarks, events, etc.

More about the Social Networks WebCamp this Wednesday

30 people have signed up for the forthcoming WebCamp "Social Networks" day of talks and discussions on Wednesday, 7th March. Again, this was organised on very short notice (just announced last Monday) but the response has been amazing, in part due to the high quality of speakers we will have and also because of the topic relevance and scope. Oh, and it's free!

So, here is a bit about each of our speakers. If anyone has any ideas of what they'd like to discuss in the afternoon, please post them here.

Cambridge, the Semantic Web and Entrepreneurship

Had a busy but very productive 24 hours of dinners, meetings, and other discussions here in Cambridge. Last night, myself and Stefan met with Kingsley Idehen, where we had a great chat over dinner about SIOC, the Semantic Web and ongoing work in both OpenLink and DERI.

Seminar on social networks next Wednesday...

It's a late announcement but we will have a special seminar on social networks here in DERI, NUI Galway next Wednesday.

I'm pretty excited by this, and we should have some interesting talks by various guest speakers, with some breakout sessions in the afternoon.

Our main guest speaker will be Valdis Krebs, an expert on social networks who has worked on almost 500 projects in this area.

DM110 - Week 7 - Online Games / Machinima

Today's lecture was about online games and machinima, the art of making movies with games.

DM110 - Week 4 - Social Networks

DM110 Emerging Web Media is a module that I teach to the Masters in Digital Media course at the Huston Film School, National University of Ireland, Galway. Yesterday, I was talking about social network theory (in brief) and online social network services (SNS). You can view the slides below.
