q1edge Released
Tim Willits has released a version of the Q2 map “The Edge” for QuakeWorld, apparently it was redone for the Quake arcade game with a few extra teleporters. I’ve added it to the war1 custom map list, and it’s available from q1edge.zip on ftp.quake.ie.
#spud Tonight
We’re having our going away games for Spud (ex-BB, CP, GI, Moo) this evening, come along to #spud on QuakeNet IRC at 7.30 PM.
Daaa G-Lined
He’s gotten out of hand yet again (no, I never had him in my hands, honest) - annoying everyone in every Quake game he plays in, and behaving even worse on IRC. After many warnings, I’ve had to enforce my first G-line on IRC.Quake.ie. If he keeps this up, I doubt there will be many server admins who won’t kick him on sight.
G-Lan
H-K has booked a local internet cafe for us Galway lads to play some LAN Quake tomorrow night. I think there’s a limit on the number of PCs available, eight or so, but it should be a bit of fun and hopefully some drinks after.
Spud is leaving college this Friday, so I am trying to organise a testimonial match for him this Thursday night at 8 PM (server TBA, probably Janet). We hope to have a good showing, so far we have lined up Carnage and Nightwing from DC, Mouserat and MoonGlum from GI, Granny and ^Spud from Moo. If you’re interested in taking part, let me know.
We’ll be gathering in #spud on QuakeNet beforehand at 7.30 PM. See you there!
GI Pages at Quake.ie
I was talking to Euclid yesterday and he told me there was some problem with our hosting on Barrysworld, something to do with missing banners, so we’ve moved back to Clans.Quake.ie/GI again! I’ll keep this page going for now, it fills the void that Cloudlands and the GI news section left in my life
Quiet Times?
Since GI dropped from the IQCL, things have been pretty quiet on the clan scene, with our last get together being a practice session with Team.ie before their trip to France. Now a new challenge has risen in the form of CT / nD merger “Clan Scobe”, so perhaps we can rise a few members from the dead to take up arms against the old enemy…
QuakeNet Move
The Irish Quake community has moved over to QuakeNet at long last, and I have taken up residence on the #quake.ie channel there. Try the Irish server irc.quake.ie, or else irc.b0rk.co.uk. Oh, I found another GI clan there too in #gi, Global Immunity.
war1 Changed to Kombat Teams
I’ve changed this server to run Kombat Teams, you can choose custom maps for wars by typing the map name at the prompt, or typing “maps” for a list of available maps (ukpak1 to ukpak8, ukcldm1 to ukcldm6, mgbase, aerowalk, androm9, base32b, death32c).
Tribes Servers Upgraded to 1.3
IGN.ie - Tribes 1 is now a version 1.3 server. Version 1.x clients should still be able to play on the server as before.
You can download a local copy of the upgrade here:
· tribes10to13.exe [Upgrades 1.0 to 1.3]
· tribes12to13.exe [Upgrades 1.2 to 1.3]
IRC.Quake.ie - It’s ALIVE!
Yes, we’ve gone and connected our very own Irish games IRC server to QuakeNet, the largest games IRC network in Europe. You can join us in channels #quake.ie and #quake2.ie on IRC.Quake.ie:6667.
IGN.ie - Half-Life 1
Soon after setting up Ireland’s first Tribes server, the IGN now hosts our first Half-Life server at 159.134.244.150 (IP name coming soon!). The server was pretty busy over the weekend, with 10 people on at one stage… It’s also listed with the Half-Life master server, so look for the game marked “IGN.ie - Half-Life 1″.
The second Tribes server has been taken down for the time being.

Quake 3 Arena Movie in Pentium III Review
Intel recently showed a demo of Quake 3 Arena in relation to the forthcoming Pentium III chip, you can download a QuickTime Movie version of this demo from ftp.quake.ie, q3a-mov.zip [4 MB]. Looks impressive.
IGN.ie - Tribes 2
We’ve set up a test tournament server in place of the Starsiege ATR 2 test server, it’s running on port 28002 but not listed with the master server so should be available for booking wars, practice etc. To connect, enter connect(”IP:tribes.ign.ie:28002″); at the console.
Also, all Tribes-related downloadable files have been moved to ftp.ign.ie.
And here they are… Won’t give any results away, enjoy the games! Thanks for providing the demos and for representing us well in France Team.ie - Ciaran, Dave, Nicky, Sam, Tom B. and Tom M., we’re all proud of you back home.
