10 years of post history on boards.ie next week / why do people use it?

As you may or may not know, it will be ten years since I made that historical first post on the Quake board on the 12th of February 1998. We’re planning to run a competition on boards.ie to celebrate our 10 years of history; details will be forthcoming.

In the meantime, I thought you might enjoy this tag cloud compiled from a survey we did last year which asked people “why do you use boards.ie?”:

  1. 1 Cormac (boards mod/junkie)

I think the whole fuzzy sense of belonging when participating in boards.ie discussions isn’t reflected in the tag cloud. The plethora of in-jokes/memes makes the whole place buzz. This applies to the whole community as well as the hundreds of subcommunities on the site.

The whole helpfulness of the place is the other major appeal. Boards.ie is my first port of call for everything from “what’s a good roast chicken recipe?” to “how do I decrease latency in my audio drivers?”

    Congrats on 10 years!
