What does the future hold for boards.ie?

As you may or may not know, boards.ie was founded in 2000 as a company, having existed in a previous life as the gaming forums at quake.ie / ign.ie. We’ve come a long way since then (see my state of the nation post for past and present statistics), and we’re still growing steadily. We launched adverts.ie in April of this year, and we plan to launch our next subsite, social.ie, during Q1 of 2007.

As we approach the Christmas holidays, I’d like to say thanks to all our members, moderators and subscribers for their support over the year, and we wish you all the best over the holiday season!

any chance the future could hold some RSS feeds? ;)

    The past holds them :)

You can also do a per-forum feed (see http://eirepreneur.blogs.com/eirepreneur/2006/08/boardsie_feed_g.html).

    And adverts.ie has many feeds…

ah, I meant more _useful_ rss feeds. ;)
http://eirepreneur.blogs.com/OPML/boards-sci.opml has suffered link-rot and no longer has working links to RSS pages; and a massive page of latest-updated threads, across the entire site, rather than per-forum, is simply too much info!

What would be useful would be a way to subscribe to individual threads and have each post appear in the RSS reader, in full text. That’s great for keeping an eye on interesting threads without having to bookmark/reload in the browser. (I’ve written a hacky scraper in the past, but it really should be built-in.)

Something similar to spot new interesting threads on a forum would be cool too (although I haven’t thought through what UI would be good, though.)

FWIW, not including the full text of posts is frowned on in rssland, see these and links from them:

Ah, well there are no by-thread feeds - you’ll probably have to wait for my eventual SIOC export.

ok — consider them requested, anyway ;)

“has suffered link-rot and no longer has working links to RSS pages”

True I’m afraid - the Boards.ie forum structure is too fast moving a target :(
But… I did ask John previously if he could not output generate the OPML for us instead of me having to compile it by hand…. so again John please…. just for Christmas… ;-)

    it’s phenominal growth
How does boards.ie earn revenue - is it all through adverts.ie or
    google ads
or what funds - finances it?
