SIOC for Drupal

I’ve written the first version of a SIOC exporter for Drupal 4.6. I still have to get the hang of menu creation, but the exporter does seem to work so far. So far, the module exports site metadata (as a SIOC Site), blogs and forums (as SIOC Forums), nodes and comments from blogs and forums (as SIOC Posts), users (as SIOC Users), and roles (as SIOC Roles). I’m testing development at irishblogs.org/sioc.

The sioc.module has been committed to the Drupal CVS repository and is available at:

Edit: Here’s the SIOC project page at drupal.org.

Another edit: Here’s the SIOC module download from drupal.org.

Blogging for Business Aftermath

The Blogging for Business event organised by Tom for the IT Association of Cork went well last night; I think there were about 20 or so attendees, and the four speakers contrasted each other nicely: a prolific blogger (Maura), a researcher (me), a journalist (Richard) and an IT consultant (Tom). Some of the attendees said they have been inspired to start their own personal / professional blogs, so the Irish blogosphere will grow some more…

Gavin got very drunk, well not really, but he says he did, and we had an interesting discussion about a compromising photo of Condoleeza Rice taken by the Google Maps satellite, or am I getting confused. Argh, I need more sleep…

POTB Clickthroughs

Martin has enhanced our clickthrough system on POTB by removing the in-between redirector step - nice one!

Tag Cloud

Bernie posted this very interesting site earlier on, Tag Cloud. Basically, it extracts keywords from your blog that it then uses as tags.

Have a look at the clouds for Cloudlands and POTB.

Blogging for Business Reminder

Yahoo! Groups : irishblogs Messages : Message 621 of 621

As mentioned by Tom above, the Blogging for Business event is on this coming Thursday in the National Software Centre in Cork.

The event is aimed at educating business people on the potential advantages to them and their business of blogging.

The presentations are as follows:

Maura McHugh - Introduction / overview of the blogging scene.
Dr. John Breslin - How blog content can be fed to mail clients, news readers, websites using syndication.
Richard Delevan - Authenticity, authority and audacity or how the audience perceives the voice in the blog.
Tom Raftery - Blogging and search engine optimisation: how a blog can put your site in the Google top 10.

Shadow Footprints - What my neighbour said

Generation Blog gets its first mention in the NZ blogosphere, thanks to Shadow Footprints.

Edit: Second mention from the Scroll of Emptiness.

Milestones: 500 Blogs at POTB; 200 at www.gen.nz

We’ve hit the magic number of 500 listings at Planet Of The Blogs. Thanks to everyone for their support, and I hope we can continue to provide a useful service.

Dave O’Neill has set up an irishblogs tag at upcoming.org, so hopefully we can integrate that into POTB. I’m adding it to irishblogs.org as I type.

In other news, since yesterday’s launch of Generation Blog, we’ve amassed (sp.) 200 blogs, so I can see a bright future for that site too…

Generation Blog: POTB Goes Kiwi

I’ve launched a new blogs aggregator for our New Zealand comrades; it’s called Generation Blog and resides at www.gen.nz.

There are a few New Zealand blog webrings out there, so once I find some time I’ll be adding those feeds to the site…

In the logo, Dr. Zaius has been replaced with General Zod from the Superman movies. Zod likes to blog too, maybe he can quote from his blog for us…
