Web Based Communities 2005

Just returned yesterday from the WBC 2005 conference, and enjoyed it overall. On Wednesday, I gave a talk on SIOC, our work on interlinking online communities. Realised that a person’s choice of avatar can also be used to connect people, if the avatars are categorised by topic. I also chaired a session on Friday entitled “Group Processes and Self-Organisation: Social Networks, Tribal- and Open Communities” which had a good mixture of technical and conceptual talks.

Met some interesting people too, including Nick Flor (creator of YesNoMaybe.com, the #1 teen advice community), Tanguy Coenen, Jon Dron (CoFIND), and Alex Schröder (Oddmuse).

What about the 24 course meal you had? ~Grin~

    Hello mysterious aunty!

It felt like 24 courses even though it was only eight. But it was excellent and great value…

    O Charneco, Estombar €
One of the best places to sample authentic Algarvean cooking in a setting that is delightfully rustic with jovial ambience, the restaurant is in the centre of Estombar near the church. Larger-than-life proprietor Joaquim Charneco and wife Marta have won numerous culinary awards for their efforts and the restaurant is a real favourite among locals and visitors alike.

    O Charneco
A typical small “Tasca” restaurant where you sit on benches and consume Portuguese cuisine by past award winning chef. Serves a set dinner. No Credit Cards and closed on Sundays.
