I watched with baited breath as the on-screen clock ticked down to the launch of ITV’s latest digital channel ITV3 last night. I have to say it was one of the most anti-climactic moments in TV history. Without so much as a hullabaloo, the announcer said welcome to ITV3 and then it was straight into the murder mystery Rebus. I believe that the recent demise of Granada Plus was linked in some way to the creation of ITV3, so maybe it was more a rebranding than a launch, but even so, couldn’t they have mustered a bit more enthusiasm?

ITV haven’t any passion for broadcasting anymore - just cold hard cash. ITV3 certainly sounds like a rebrand of Granada Plus though - just dropping the old Granada brand in favour of ITV, killing it off piece by piece. I’ll get off my high horse now..
