I decided to watch the eclipse itself on Sky News, having given up on my native RTE. At 11:11 AM, the view changed from the last little sliver of moon to a blazing corona, and three shots from the transformation sequence are given below.

The Sky News coverage itself was also a big improvement on the competition, with some nice diagrams illustrating the path of the solar eclipse, and live scenes from the eclipse as it occurred in cities and various regions along that path. They didn’t dwell on presenters in the studio either, showing what was important: the actual eclipse itself as it unfolded. So in order of best eclipse programming, I’d have to say Sky News, BBC1, TV5, RTE1, Euro News / TG4 and Channel Four. Perhaps they’ll all get it right for the next one…
