IQCL Finals ‘98 Site Launch

Been real busy lately with Hibernians DM, WWWBoard, Japan and that, so just have time to put up this preliminary site.

Basically, if you intend going to the IQCL Finals ‘98, make sure you fill out the registration form as we need to get some idea of numbers now.

Our target at the moment is to hold the finals the first week in June, namely the weekend of the 6/7. This may be put back if we can’t get all the resources together by then…

If anyone is willing to help with sponsorship, prizes etc., send us an e-mail at iqclfinals@quake.ie.

I have updated the results page, complete figures will be available when the last three games are played (CT vs. II, CT vs. Inc, nD vs. X-Com).

“I’m going to stay helping the Hibs…”

Zero has decided to put in a last effort before he goes to the US in three weeks time and help out with the organising of the Hibernians DM team, he has updated the list of players on the LPB and HPW panels, for full details of the team, check out the Hibernians DM news page. Up and coming matches include an LPB game with QPD on Wednesday, practices with CP tonight. Meet on the #hibs channel on irc beforehand. Von has been out of action because of a phone problem.

QuakeLords ‘98 Final Entries

Get those final entries e-mailed to Mindphuck AS SOON AS POSSIBLE for the QuakeLords ‘98 competition, which is running separate Quake 1 and 2 sections. Talking to Eric yesterday at the IGN/GamesCon meeting, the small number of LPB players makes it likely that the HPW and LPB sections will be merged for Quake 1 and 2, and LPB players will use proxies to add ping / packet loss differences as required. We also discussed the IQCL finals at the meeting, hope to hold it in early June sometime but no more details yet.

Quaper Wars Continue

ChRoMe’s announcement that he was interested in bringing back the old Irish Quake Post has sparked new controversy between the Quake news page maintainers on the IOL games list. Helg from QameX has retaliated by saying quake.ie should have a Microsoft-like motto of “What news do you want to read today?” if they decide to host this latest site, I asked ChRoMe last night if he would consider merging with one of the existing sites instead, QameX or unt. He laughed!

Greenbean has resurrected the old Green Fields pages and I have added them to the main quake.ie page, read what times were like in days of old, the first Hibernians announcement, the formation of Incarnate etc.

I am still filling in here (quake.ie News) until Von gets his phone back on-line, will be handing over to him as soon as that happens.

quake.ie Latest

The amount of mails in my abuse@quake.ie mailbox jumped dramatically last week when the WWWBoard went down, but it’s back again and at the old WWWBoard address. I have also started an automatic updating of the UK Quake archives at 8 am each day.

The quake.ie servers list has been updated, with some DNS changes we have moved ra1.quake.ie to arena1.quake.ie/q2arena1.quake.ie, and ca1.quake.ie to arena2.quake.ie. Enjoy.

Alas, Poor Zero, I Knew Him

A note on Zero’s final update for quake.ie.

Zero has been the main driving force in Irish Quake for the best part of a year. His contributions included writing the popular “Irish Quake News”, managing Hibernians through troubled times, organising the first Quake clan in UL and the first Quake 2 clan in the country, winning both the QuakeFest and QuakeLords ‘97 competitions, working with QameX, and being the main quake.ie newsman.

People make mistakes, stupid things that seem funny at the time and suddenly are blown way out of proportion. I’ve thrown more than a few stones Zero’s way from time to time, but basically he is a down-to-earth guy who has done more than his bit for Irish Quake, and one of the few really all-round talented players you will come across.

It’s been a pleasure working with you Ronan, and hope that you may consider rejoining us in some form or another when you return from your journeys abroad.
