It’s been a busy week and a half since I last updated. Here’s what I’m at…
- Changed the IQCL results to order by frags, not rank (past matches updated).
- Enabled the use of high characters in IQCL games (only drawback is that brown characters do not appear in scores, replaced by their white counterparts) so that the results would look a lot more nifty!
- Uploaded a whole pile (around 300) Quake 2 skins to the quake.ie Q2 servers. If you want to use these, get them from http://homepages.sylvaninfo.net/skins/
- Enabled GL-supported maps on the quake.ie Vanilla and QW servers.
- Got WWWBoard, simple search, counters and random banners to work on quake.ie.
CTF Fixes
I have sorted some niggly things with the Quake CTF 4.1 server at ql3.quake.ie. Firstly, the map sequence was causing it to cycle through e1 and return to the custom ctfstart map. This has been fixed. No need for the CTF 4.1 client
Secondly, I have added a TossRune function - by binding a key to impulse 19, you can get rid of that silly “repair ripped clothes” rune and pick up one of the other handier ones (J/K for those of you who are feeling hard done by because you haven’t found that rune yet). There still seems to be something funny with tossing runes, you kind of have to aim up in air sometimes when disposing of it. If anyone knows more Quake C than I do and can help me out here, send me a mail at cloud@quake.ie. Impulses 20 and 21 still toss your backpacks and weapons as per CTF 3.5.
IQCL Closing Date
In other news, the IQCL is still taking entries until Wednesday, 11 February. If your clan has not entered, please do so as soon as possible as the draw for divisions and matches takes place the following day. We hope to hold this live on #iqcl on irc.iol.ie at 8 pm Thursday night. Matches will be starting promptly on Saturday afternoon, 14 February. We got a nice mention from Sean T. Martin, AKA Redwood, last Saturday, and with 15 teams entered so far, the competition is gaining momentum.
Spring time… Ah, the lovely smell of gibs in the air, bodyless axe-gripping arms littering the floors, singed backpacks lying by the lava pits, don’t you just love it? Busy weekend, with Ross (toilet) coming up to visit us and a good old set of one on one games with demos and every screenshot you could possibly want from the weekend at http://weber.ucg.ie/quake/news.html. Glad to see that “pretentious git” Sujoy is back on the web (he said it, not me!) with the latest news from the UK Quake scene, check it out at http://www.sujoy.com/. I’ve been trying to set the q2ffa1 server up for some clan matches, the dmflags variable is not doing what I want it to do, bring back the teamplay setting I say. And while you’re at it you guys in Id Software, you can pay me royalties for using my BFG-10000 (TM) in your new so-called game, Quake 2. I know you know that I had that first on my GI page when I designed our first clan skin, I mean did you have to read back issues of GI news and steal it from the most obvious place in the world (for reference, see http://weber/quake/news/0197.html). My lawyers will be in touch. And you know I will win, see what happened to 20th Century Fox (TM) when they tried taking on those guys who got the 21st Century Fox (TM) name before them? Heh! Uploaded the T3 and PGL final demos to quake.ie, watch Thresh in action, http://www.quake.ie/files/demos/ for now, will have a complete demos section coming to quake.ie soon.
